About the Artist

Judith A. Williams is a contemporary encaustic and mixed media artist from Northern California. She has developed an incredible, deft vocabulary of everyday objects.

Artist Statement

I love color, line, and form. I design and compose with collage papers and encaustic paint. Simultaneously, I paint and paste. I am motivated to describe my fascination with nature and patterns, and create my own ethereal realm. I am drawn to a past sense of time and place unknown, where I greet my spirituality. Working with encaustic paints allows me to layer the luscious transclucent wax and imbed the forms and marks. I realize the form and subject matter through a process of addition and subtraction. It's the hidden layers, transparencies, and looking through time that interests me.

A trip to Japan inspired this series of tea bowls. To me, thy are vessels of light, life, and the sacred.
